Privacy Policy for EmberRun: Run Streak
Dear User,
Thank you for using EmberRun. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with your information — including the health information it can read from Apple Health.
The short version: EmberRun runs entirely on your device. It has no accounts, no servers and no analytics, and nothing it reads or records is ever sent anywhere.
By using the app you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The app has no account system, no login, and makes no network requests of its own. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number)
- Device or advertising identifiers (IDFA, advertising ID)
- Location data
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
- Usage analytics, crash telemetry, or behavioural profiling
- Any data obtained through third-party services
The health information described in section 2 is not an exception to this: it is read on your device, used on your device, and never leaves it.
2. Health Data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
EmberRun is a running and weight-management app, so it can — only with your explicit permission — read a small set of health data from Apple Health.
What it can read (read-only):
- Workouts — to recognise a run you have already completed
- Step count — to reflect walking and running activity
- Heart rate — to check that a session's intensity stays in a sensible range
- Body mass (weight) — to chart your weight trend against your goal
What it does with that data: exactly two things — marking a planned run as complete when a matching workout is found, and drawing your weight history inside the app. Nothing else.
What it never does:
- Never writes to Apple Health. The app requests read permission only; it holds no write permission and cannot add, alter or delete anything in Health.
- Never transmits health data. It is not uploaded to us or to anyone else, because the app has no server to upload it to.
- Never used for advertising, marketing, profiling, data mining, or sale. We do not share or disclose health data with any third party, for any purpose.
- Never stored in iCloud. The app's data file is explicitly marked to be excluded from iCloud and iTunes backups. One consequence is worth knowing: your history will not transfer to a new device, and we cannot restore it for you.
Permission is optional. You can decline Health access and every feature still works — you simply record your runs and weights yourself. You can grant or revoke access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → EmberRun, or from the Apple Health app. Revoking access stops any further reading immediately; any values already shown in the app are removed when you clear the app's data (section 8) or delete the app.
3. Data Stored on Your Device
Your profile (height, weight, birth year, sex, preferences), your goal and generated plan, your check-ins, your weight log, your points ledger and your unlocked items are saved in a single file inside the app's own storage area on your device.
This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not transmitted to any server
- Is not accessible to us or to any third party
- Is excluded from iCloud and iTunes backup
- Is deleted when you uninstall the app
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app schedules reminders (check-in time, planned run time) that are created and delivered locally on your device. There is no push server, and no notification content is sent anywhere. Notifications are optional and never used for marketing.
5. Third-Party Services
The app integrates no third-party services whatsoever. There are no:
- Advertising networks
- Analytics or attribution SDKs
- Social media plugins or sign-in providers
- Cloud sync services
- External APIs or network calls made by the app
The app works completely offline and requires no internet connection. The only time your device contacts the internet on the app's behalf is when you tap a link to this privacy policy or to our support page, which opens in your browser.
6. Purchases and In-App Points
There is no advertising, no in-app purchase and no subscription in this app. The points and levels it awards are a scoring and decoration system only: they cannot be bought, transferred, or exchanged for money or goods, and they carry no monetary value.
7. Data Security
Because the app neither collects nor transmits personal information, there is no server-side store to breach. Data on your device is protected by the standard iOS application sandbox and by whatever device passcode and encryption you have enabled.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- Health access — grant or revoke at any time in iOS Settings or the Health app.
- Export — Settings → Export data writes your own data to a file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes from there is entirely your choice.
- Erase — Settings → Clear all data permanently deletes everything the app has stored. This cannot be undone.
- Delete the app — removing EmberRun removes its data with it.
Since we hold no personal data about you on any server, there is nothing on our side for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf.
9. Children's Privacy
The app collects no information from anyone, children included, so it holds nothing that could be disclosed. It is not directed at children under 13, and it will not generate a training plan for a user under 18.
10. Medical Disclaimer
EmberRun offers general fitness guidance. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a medical device. Consult a doctor before starting any exercise programme, particularly if you have a cardiovascular or joint condition, take medication, or are pregnant.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app or in legal requirements. The effective date at the top of this page always shows when it was last revised.
